Benefits Eligibility

You may be eligible for benefits with the US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) if you are:

  • A veteran
  • A veteran’s dependent
  • A surviving spouse, child or parent of a deceased veteran
  • An active duty military servicemember
To learn more about how the VA defines these roles and determines a person's eligibility to receive veteran benefits, read the terms and definitions in the DC Personnel Regulations 703, Veterans Preference.
